Projects don’t necessarily have dedicated teams and quite often they rely on specialized teams to perform a phase, deliverable or work package. Additionally, different teams might quite often have different methodologies; some working on Agile and others in waterfall projects.

Traditional project management tools provide a good forecast project perspective but do not cater well for agile projects with the ability to let the team organize and prioritize work. On the other hand, agile tools are visually appealing but are poor in providing a global project/portfolio perspective, in forecasting all work capacity and capacity planning.

Solution Concept

SHIFT 2 Hybrid facilitates project management control and improve communication by allowing the integration between traditional and Agile project management tools.

Project leader defines the resources, the priorities, the tasks’ start and finish dates and checklists template in a traditional project management tool, like Microsoft Project. Then, teams report tasks’ percentage complete and start or finish dates’ changes in an Agile project management tool, like Microsoft Planner or Azure DevOps.

With this solution, users can prioritize work, confirm deadlines and add a checklist with instructions to another team members. It also improves the quality of information through a better team engagement and buy in.

SHIFT 2 Hybrid is based in three simple steps:

  1. Identify on the plan if the task should be managed in a team -> System will automatically create the task for you in the agile tool with a checklist based on templates;
  2. In the Agile tool, assign resources to tasks and adjust the start and/or finish dates;
  3. Use the task checklist to report progress back to the project plan.

Optionally you can define a template for items to check on each project task.
